アルコサンティ Arcosanti

Arcosanti was founded by Paolo Soleri. Soleri coined the term “arcology”, a fusion of architecture and ecology. Arcosanti is designed according to the principles of arcology, and consists of 25 acres of built environment in a 4,000 acre preserve. The design involves a compact, culturally rich and lively urban environment for 5,000 people surrounded by pristine wilderness. The plans also include large scale greenhouses to provide year-round food and heat in winter.

アルコサンティはパオロ・ソレリ氏によって設立されました。ソレリ氏はアーコロジーという言葉を作り出して、建築（アーキテクチャー）と生態学（エコロジー）の融合を示しています。アルコサンティはアーコロジーの原理に沿って、デザインされています。4000エーカーの自然の中で25エーカーしか開発しません。コンパクトシティーで将来に5000人がここに住む予定です。大規模温室で年間の食料を生産し、冬には熱源になります。

In 2010, Tomiaki Tamura visited Japan and spoke at the international ecovillage conference in Tokyo and at Nihon University. By chance, both Tomiaki and I are graduates of Nihon University. We first met in Japan in 2010 and Kazuko and I visited Tomiaki at Arcosanti on December 28-29. He cooked a delicious dinner for us including homemade pasta and gave us a personal tour of Arcosanti. We also met Youngsoo Kim, a Korea architect living and working at Arcosanti with strong ties to organic farming, rural revitalization, and sustainability in Korea. Both Tomiaki and Youngsoo have recently helped publish a book on Solari’s concept of the linear city.

アルコサンティの建設を長く担当し、現在アーカイブを担当しているタムラ・トミアキさんに会いに行きました。タムラさんは2010年に来日し、エコビレッジ国際会議と日本大学性物資源科学部で講演し、その時に出会いました。今回大変お世話になりました。ゲストルームを予約したのにもかかわらずパオロ・ソレリ氏の個別スタジオに泊まらせていただきました。その上タムラさんが手作りパスタを作ってくれたり、詳しく案内してくれたりしました。韓国での有機農業や農村再生、サステナビリティとかかわっているキム・ヨンスさんにも出会いました。ヨンスさんは約7年間アルコサンティで働いています。
